AUBURNDALE – Nine different Auburndale players hit the scoring column as the Apaches kicked off their 2019-20 girls basketball season with a resounding 63-31 win over Greenwood in a nonconference game Tuesday night at Auburndale High School.
Natalie Aue scored 15 points, Kaitlyn Kundinger had 14, and Georgi Schmutzer chipped in 13 for Auburndale in the home win.
The Apaches cruised out to a 29-11 lead by halftime and continued to build their lead through the second half to win going away.
Both teams struggled from the free throw line in the season-opening game. Greenwood made just 4 of 19 shots at the line, while Auburndale went 6-for-24.
Maddi Raese scored 16 of Greenwood’s 31 points, 10 coming in the second half.
Both teams will open their respective conference schedules later this week. Auburndale hosts Wisconsin Rapids Assumption on Thursday in its Marawood Conference South Division opener, while Greenwood will play at Colby on Friday in its Cloverbelt Conference East Division opener.
