MADISON – The 2019 WIAA Football Championships were held Nov. 21-22 at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison.
Four teams repeated as state champions as the two-day event concluded Friday night.
Black Hawk/Warren won its second-straight Division 7 title with a 6-0 win over Edgar, Fond du Lac St. Mary’s Springs edged Eau Claire Regis 7-0 to take the Division 6 crown, and Waukesha Catholic Memorial rolled past Kiel 35-0 to win the Division 4 championship on Thursday.
St. Mary’s Springs’ title was its third in a row, after winning Division 5 championship last year and the D-6 title in 2017. It also extends St. Mary’s Springs’ state record of nine overall football championships.
Catholic Memorial won the Division 3 title in 2018, while Black Hawk beat Edgar for the second-straight season in the D-7 final.
In Thursday’s other matchup, Lake Country Lutheran stormed back from a 13-point deficit to beat Stratford 22-13 in the Division 5 final. The title is LCL’s first in program history.
On Friday, Muskego beat Bay Port 21-10 to win its second-straight Division 1 championship.
In other games Friday, DeForest slipped past Menasha 8-7 in the Division 3 final, scoring a touchdown and converting a two-point conversion in the final minute. In Division 2, Brookfield East held off Waunakee 31-30 as Waunakee scored a touchdown with 8 seconds remaining, but missed the extra point kick.
The titles are the second in program history for both DeForest (1982) and Brookfield East (2016).
