MARSHFIELD – Marshfield Columbus Catholic senior Tom Nystrom tied a school record with nine 3-pointers and the Dons held off Colby for a 61-52 victory in the Cloverbelt Conference East Division opener for both teams on Tuesday night at Columbus Catholic High School.
The Dons led 34-19 at halftime and held on from there. Colby cut the lead to single digits late but Columbus was able to ride out the win and improve to 2-1 this season.
Harley Schmelzer had 16 points and eight rebounds to lead Colby, which was playing its season opener.
Nystrom finished with a game-high 29 points for the Dons. Complete statistics for Columbus Catholic were not provided.
