Marshfield wrestling drops season opener to Stevens Point

MARSHFIELD – Stevens Point won three matches by pin and two by forfeit to slip past Marshfield 36-26 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference wrestling opener for both teams on Thursday night at Marshfield High School.

Justin Groshek (113 pounds), T.J. Schierl (132) and Brett Johnston (182) won by pin for the Panthers.

Marshfield won six of the 14 matches, including two by pin from Shane Westerhausen (120) and Garrett Willuweit (152).

Keagan Cliver (126) and Gabe Pugh (138) won by decision, and Ryan Dolezal (145) and Cody Weix (160) earned major decisions for the Tigers.

Sam Molski (170) and Josh Kolodziej (195) won by decision for Stevens Point.

Both teams return to action Saturday. Stevens Point will be at the Wausau West Invitational and Marshfield will wrestle at the Stoughton Invitational.
