LA CROSSE – La Crosse Central shot 60 percent from the floor, largely from its three Division I college recruits, and bounced Marshfield 83-53 in a nonconference boys basketball game Friday night at Central High School.
Central, playing its season opener, grabbed a 43-27 lead by halftime and were able to maintain a big lead the rest of the way.
Johnny Davis, a University of Wisconsin recruit, made 11 of 16 shots and scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Red Raiders, while also pulling down 13 rebounds. Jordan Davis, who will join his brother at Wisconsin, added 13 points, and Terrance Thompson, who is undecided but has his pick of numerous D-I offers, added 17 points on 7-for-9 shooting for Central.
Marshfield shot just 35 percent from the field (19-for-54). The Tigers made 12 3-pointers, but were only 7-for-16 from 2-point range.
Addison Hill made six 3-pointers and finished with a season-high 18 points to lead Marshfield. Joey Goettl added 10 points and four rebounds.
Marshfield (1-2) will have a week off before hosting Wisconsin Rapids in its Wisconsin Valley Conference opener on Dec. 13 as part of a girls-boys doubleheader. The girls game starts at 6 p.m. with the boys to follow at approximately 7:45 p.m. Both games will be broadcast on WDLB-AM 1450 and wdlbwosq.com.
