Stevens Point cruises past Marshfield in WVC girls basketball opener

STEVENS POINT – Leah Earnest scored 26 points to lead Stevens Point to a 78-42 win over Marshfield in the Wisconsin Valley Conference girls basketball opener for both teams on Tuesday night at Stevens Point Area Senior High.

Stevens Point rolled out to a 39-17 lead by halftime and maintained its double-digit lead throughout the second half.

Zoe Fink added 14 points and Tahlia Moe had 12 points for the Panthers (3-1 overall).

Maddie Michaelis accounted for more than half of Marshfield’s points, scoring 22.

Marshfield (0-3 overall) will host Wisconsin Rapids on Friday as part of a girls-boys doubleheader. The girls game begins at 6 p.m. and the boys will follow at approximately 7:45 p.m. at Marshfield High School. Both games will be broadcast on WDLB-AM 1450 and wdlbwosq.com.
