Marshfield boys hockey earns dominating conference win at Wisconsin Rapids

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Marshfield boys hockey team picked up its first Wisconsin Valley Conference victory of the season as it dominated Wisconsin Rapids 4-1 on Tuesday night at the South Wood County Recreation Center.

Josh Gruen and Dom Lange scored in the first period and Ian Haugen added a goal in the second to help the Tigers (2-3-1, 1-1 Wisconsin Valley Conference) open up a 3-0 lead.

After a score by Trevor Vilbaum for Wisconsin Rapids (2-2, 0-1 WVC) early in the third period, Nick Urban scored for the Tigers off an assist by Payton Smith with 5:10 to go.

Marshfield outshot Wisconsin Rapids 58-12. Rapids goalie Torger Stachurski had 54 saves and Marshfield’s A.J. Trierweiler saved 11.

Marshfield will play a nonconference game at Lakeland on Thursday, while Wisconsin Rapids travels to Stevens Point for a Wisconsin Valley Conference contest.
