MARSHFIELD – Antigo scored a pair of goals in the third period to break open a tie game and beat Marshfield 3-1 in a nonconference boys hockey game Friday night at the Marshfield Ice Arena.

Garrett Husnick scored 6:29 into the third period and Isaac Wickersheim added a goal with less than 3 minutes to play to give the Red Robins (1-3-1) their first win of the season. Marshfield falls to 2-4-1.

“Tonight was frustrating,” Marshfield coach Eric Bowman said. “We are getting shots. We just need to find a way to put our opportunities in the back of the net. We outshot them and had our opportunities but failed to convert. We are going through some growing pains right now as we lost a deep senior class last year. We remain confident that this will be a successful season as players get more varsity experience and players develop into their roles.”

Marshfield outshot Antigo 37-24, but only scored once. Payton Smith had a goal, off an assist from Seth Peterson, 5:32 into the second period to tie the game at 1-1.

A.J. Trierweiler finished with 21 saves in goal for Marshfield.
