AUBURNDALE – Cooper Weinfurter and Hunter Wright each scored 20 points and Auburndale shot a sizzling 62 percent to beat Marathon 71-62 in a Marawood Conference South Division boys basketball game Friday night at Auburndale High School.
Auburndale remains perfect on the season at 5-0 overall and are now 3-0 in the Marawood South. Marathon suffered its first loss, falling to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
Auburndale led 31-22 at halftime and maintained its lead in the second half of the fouled-marred game.
The game saw 45 fouls, 29 by Marathon, and 50 free throw attempts. Auburndale was 21-for-31 at the free throw line, with Weinfurter making 9 of 11 and Wright 8 of 11.
The Apaches made 22 of 37 field goals, including four 3-pointers.
Cody Trowbridge added 10 points and Fletcher Raab had nine points for Auburndale.
Clarke Mouw scored 19 points to lead Marathon.
Auburndale will play at Edgar on Tuesday, while Marathon travels to Stratford.
