Marshfield wrestling beats Merrill for first WVC win

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield wrestling team won its first Wisconsin Valley Conference dual meet of the season, beating Merrill 42-28 on Thursday night at Marshfield High School.

Marshfield won four matches by pin, one by technical fall and two by major decision.

The Tigers (1-2 WVC) won the first five matches and the final two to finish off the victory.

Hoyt Blaskowski (132 pounds) started the match with a dominating 16-1 technical fall, Brett Franklin (138) followed with a major decision 14-4, and Ryan Dolezal (145), Garrett Willuweit (152) and Cody Weix (160) each won by pin as Marshfield opened up a 27-0 lead.

Merrill responded with three-straight pins and a forfeit win, before the Tigers capped off the win as Logan Cournoyer won by forfeit at 113 pounds, and Shane Westerhausen earned a pin at 120.

Marshfield will compete at the Shawano Invitational on Saturday.
