Auburndale boys basketball pulls away in second half to top Phillips, improve to 7-0

PHILLIPS – Cooper Weinfurter scored 29 points, surpassing the 1,000-point plateau for his career, to lead the Auburndale boys basketball team to a 69-56 win over Phillips in a Marawood Conference North-South crossover Friday night at Phillips High School.

Auburndale led by just one, 28-27, at halftime before pulling away with a 41-point second half.

With the win, the Apaches remain undefeated at 7-0 overall and are now 5-0 in the Marawood South. Phillips is 4-2 and 3-2 in the Marawood North.

Weinfurter, a senior guard, now has 1,020 points in his four-year career.

Hunter Wright added 17 points and Fletcher Raab added 14 points for Auburndale.

Auburndale will host its annual holiday tournament next weekend. Auburndale plays Augusta on Dec. 27 and will play either Neillsville or Weyauwega-Fremont on Dec. 28.
