APPLETON –Marshfield Columbus Catholic’s top flighted players advanced at the WIAA Division 2 subsectional by placing third Monday at Fox Cities Racquet Club.
The Dons’ No. 1 singles player, Elizabeth Manlick, advanced by reaching the subsectional semifinals. Manlick, a sophomore, improved to 19-5 on the season.
Columbus Catholic’s No. 1 doubles taem of Haley Orella and Angie Seubert also advanced. They improved to 18-5 on the season as they advanced to the semifinals.
Manlick defeated Alyssa Ticks of Fox Valley Lutheran 6-0, 6-0, and Orella and Seubert beat Mel Andersen and Layla Heger of St. Mary Central 6-3, 6-3, to reach the semifinals and qualify for sectionals.
The Dons’ No. 2 doubles team of Nikki Hertel and Abby Gotz beat Megan Wendt and Kirsti Seline of Fox Valley Lutheran 6-0, 6-0, before falling to Elizabeth Dickhut and Shannon Stilp of Appleton Xavier 7-5, 6-4.
Columbus Catholic’s No. 3 doubles team also reached the semifinals, but lost out on a sectional bid.
Maddy Havican and Cassidy Schlinsog beat Tori Walsh and Steph Stolp of Medford 6-3, 6-3, before losing to Xavier’s Alethia Schell and Rebecca Walsh 6-4, 6-2.
The top four finishers in No. 1 singles and doubles, and the top two in all other flights move on to Thursday’s Division 2 sectional at Kohler. The top four finishers at the sectional move on to the WIAA State Individual Tennis Tournament in Madison on Oct. 14-16.
The team points champion in the sectional will play in the WIAA State Team Tennis Tournament in Madison on Oct. 22-23.
