Stratford wrestling pins eight, routs Phillips

PHILLIPS – Stratford earned eight pins, seven coming in the first period, to make quick work of Phillips and win its Marawood Conference wrestling dual meet 66-11 on Tuesday night at Phillips High School.

Gavin Kirsch (145 pounds), Trevor Dennee (182) and Beau Gross (220) earned pins in the first minute of their respective matches. Benno Wenzel (120), Max Schwabe (138), Jake Heiden (152) and Raife Smart (195) also earned first-period pins, and Cole Marten (285) pinned his opponent 35 seconds into the second period for Stratford.

Stratford’s other three wins came by forfeit.

Stratford will go on the road for another Marawood dual at Athens on Thursday before competing at the D.C. Everest Invitational on Saturday.
