MARSHFIELD – Marshfield goalie A.J. Trierweiler saved all 37 shots he saw as the Tigers shut out Rhinelander 2-0 in a nonconference game Tuesday at the Marshfield Ice Arena.

Evan Weister scored midway through the first period and Nick Urban added a goal off an assist from Adam Zee early in the second period to provide Marshfield’s scoring. But it was all about Trierweiler in net for the Tigers.

“We started really well tonight, and then in the second and third period we started playing too passively,” Marshfield coach Eric Bowman said. “A.J. Trierweiler bailed us out with a few really big saves, allowing us to pick up a win tonight. We did a good job taking care of business in front of the net and clearing out rebound opportunities.

“We had a few players play significant minutes for us tonight that have not been in the varsity rotation, and they stepped up and filled their roles for their teammates tonight. We are starting to catch our stride as we work through a difficult stretch of our schedule.”

Marshfield improves to 7-5-1, while Rhinelander falls to 5-7 this season.

Marshfield will take on Wausau West at Marathon Park in Wausau on Thursday.
