Newman Catholic comes back to top Auburndale in Marawood South girls basketball showdown

AUBURNDALE – The Auburndale girls basketball team had first-place Wausau Newman Catholic on the ropes after an impressive first half, but couldn’t hold on, and the Cardinals won the Marawood Conference South Division battle 51-47 on Tuesday at Auburndale High School.

Auburndale led 20-10 after limiting Newman Catholic to four made field goals, all from Julia Seidel, in the first half.

Newman Catholic was able to pull out the win with seven 3-pointers in the second half, three from Jadelyn Ganski and two by Alex Frankel.

Seidel finished with 18 points, and Frankel and Ganski added 10 each, all coming in the second half for the Cardinals (9-2, 7-0 Marawood South).

Kaitlyn Kundinger had 12 points and Natalie Aue scored 11 for the Apaches (8-4, 4-3 Marawood South).

Auburndale hosts Chequamegon in a Marawood crossover game on Friday.
