STEVENS POINT – Taylor Varsho improved to 19-7 this season and led a group of three Marshfield singles players that moved on with wins Monday at the WIAA Division 1 girls tennis subesectional at Stevens Point Area Senior High.
Varsho, Megan Hayes (14-7) at No. 2 singles and Victoria Jensen (8-2) at No. 3 singles qualified for Wednesday’s Division 1 sectional tournament at Boson Courts in Marshfield.
The top four finishers at No. 1 singles and doubles, and the top two finishers at the other remaining flights qualified for the sectional meet.
The top four at No. 1 singles and doubles and the top finisher at No. 2 singles and doubles at the sectional meet move on to the WIAA State Individual Girls Tennis Tournament in Madison on Oct. 14-16. An additional 16 No. 1 singles players and No. 1 doubles teams will be added to the state tournament field through special extra qualifier slots.
The top team from the sectional also will move on the WIAA State Team Girls Tennis Tournament in Madison on Oct. 22-23.
