Spencer/Columbus Catholic wrestler Ashton Ackman has been voted as the WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com December High School Athlete of the Month.
The High School Athlete of the Month Award sponsors for the 2019-20 school year are Cost Cutters Family Hair Care of Marshfield, Stevens Point Orthopedics, and Burt Trophy & Awards. The monthly award will continue through June 2020, and the winner of the WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com High School Athlete of the Year will be announced July 9.
Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award: Abbotsford, Athens, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Marathon, Marshfield, Neillsville, Owen-Withee, Pittsville, Spencer, Stratford and Thorp.
Ackman earned 878 of the 2,017 votes cast during voting from Jan. 3-9 at MarshfieldAreaSports.com.
Other nominees for the December award were: Marshfield wrestler Ryan Dolezal, Columbus Catholic girls basketball player Addison Baierl, Athens boys basketball player Cameron Ford, and Loyal girls basketball player Remi Geiger.
Ackman entered January with a 20-1 record, with some impressive wrestling in the month of December. Ackman, ranked No. 1 in the state in Division 2 at 113 pounds, won the Royall Invitational, Eau Claire North Husky Invitational, and Shawano Invitational individual titles at his weight class, and finished second at 113 pounds at the 69-team Bi-State Classic in La Crosse on Dec. 27-28.

Ackman joins Marshfield soccer and football player Kyle Tremelling (September), Marshfield Columbus Catholic volleyball player Meghan Kibbel (October), and Auburndale cross country runner Erricka Zenner (November) as winners of the Athlete of the Month award during the 2019-20 school year.
