Marshfield girls basketball crushes Wausau East

WAUSAU – The Marshfield girls basketball team rebounded from a nonconference loss Tuesday to down Wausau East 72-48 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference matchup Friday night at Wausau East High School.

Marshfield shot a sizzling 54 percent from the field (30-for-55) and had four players score in double figures in the victory.

Kaydee Johnson had 14 points and nine assists, Paige Preston added 13 points and six rebounds, Danielle Minsaas had 12 and Desirae Weisenberger chipped in 11 for the Tigers, who improve to 5-5 overall and 4-1 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference.

Marshfield led 39-20 by halftime and held off East (4-8, 0-4 WVC) the rest of the way.

Against Chippewa Falls on Tuesday, Marshfield led 24-21 at halftime but couldn’t hold on as the Cardinals pulled away in the second half.

Four players accounted for all of Chippewa Falls’ points, with Caelan Givens leading the way with 17 points.

Minsaas had 19 points for Marshfield, making 7 of 9 shots from the field, including 4-for-5 on 3-pointers. Johnson had 11 rebounds as well for the Tigers.

Marshfield will return to Wausau on Monday to play Wausau West, which is 4-0 in the Valley.
