Marshfield gymnastics takes team title at Wisconsin Rapids Invite

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Marshfield put up its best score of the season, coming just a point from a program record, and won the Charlie Martin Gymnastics Invitational on Saturday at Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School.

Gracie Holland won all four events and the all-around title, and the Tigers had three second-place finishes as well as they racked up a team score of 137.55, easily outdistancing second-place Mukwonago (129.275). Wisconsin Rapids was fifth (124.875) in the eight-team field.

Holland won the balance beam (8.95), floor exercise (9.475), uneven bars (9.55) and the vault (9.35) to finish with an all-around score of 37.325, which was 3½ points ahead of Catie McPherson of Ashland, who finished second.

Jade Scholl placed second in the beam (8.85), and Alexis Mushel took second in the floor (9.05) and the vault (8.9) for Marshfield.

Hanna Merkel was third in the uneven bars (7.95), and Kimberly Backaus was fifth (8.6) and Sophie Nikolay sixth (8.55) in the vault for the Tigers.

Marshfield, which has won every dual and tournament it has participated in this season, hosts Stevens Point for a Great Northern Conference dual meet at 5:45 p.m. Thursday.
