Marshfield girls basketball storms back to beat Wausau West

WAUSAU – The Marshfield girls basketball team sent Wausau West to its first Wisconsin Valley Conference loss of the season, beating the Warriors in comeback fashion 59-57 on Monday night at West High School.

Marshfield trailed 28-18 at halftime before exploding for 41 points in the second half to pull out the two-point win.

The Tigers are now 6-5 overall and 5-1 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference. Stevens Point leads the standings at 4-0, while West drops to 6-6 and 4-1 in the WVC.

Kaydee Johnson scored a career-high 24 points for Marshfield going 10-for-11 at the free throw line and making a pair of 3-pointers. Maddie Michaelis was 6-for-7 at the line and scored 14 points, and Desirae Weisenberger added 11 points for the Tigers.

Overall, Marshfield was 17 of 22 at the free throw line.

Wausau West statistics were not provided.

Marshfield plays a nonconference game at Rhinelander on Friday.
