MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield girls basketball team won its third-straight game, edging Oshkosh West 39-37 in a nonconference game Tuesday at Marshfield High School on a last-second steal and lay-in by senior Kaydee Johnson.

With the game tied, West inbounded the ball under Marshfield’s basket and the Tigers swarmed the West player, with Johnson stripping the ball and scoring at the buzzer.

Johnson finished with 13 points, Quincy Lang added eight, and Desirae Weisenberger had five points and eight rebounds for the Tigers, who improve to 7-5.

Marshfield trailed 19-15 at halftime before coming alive in the second half to eke out the win despite shooting just 28 percent (12-for-43) from the field and making only 2 of 18 3-point attempts.

Marshfield will host Stevens Point as part of a girls-boys doubleheader on Friday. The girls game begins at 6 p.m. with the boys to follow. Both games will be broadcast on WDLB-AM 1450 and wdlbwosq.com, and will be live-streamed at zaleskisports.com/live-sports.

Both games will also have big implications on the Wisconsin Valley Conference standings. Stevens Point leads Marshfield by one game on top of the girls standings, and the two boys teams are tied for first place at 4-1.
