Auburndale girls basketball pulls away in second half to best Marathon

MARATHON – Auburndale busted open a tight game with a 10-point advantage in the second half and pulled past Marathon 45-34 in a Marawood Conference South Division girls basketball game Tuesday night at Marathon High School.

Auburndale led 20-19 at halftime before limiting the Raiders to just 15 points in the second half and pulling away.

Natalie Aue scored 15 points to lead Auburndale, which moves into sole possession of second place in the Marawood South with the win. The Apaches are now 11-4 overall and 7-3 in conference play. Auburndale is two games behind Wausau Newman Catholic in the standings.

Marathon falls to 7-5 and 6-4 in the conference.

Auburndale plays a Marawood crossover game at Rib Lake on Friday.
