WAUPACA – Marshfield scored four goals in a wild second period to break open a tight game and blow past Waupaca 6-1 in a nonconference boys hockey game on Tuesday at the Waupaca Expo Center.

Sawyer Schindler scored on a power play goal with just 2 seconds to go in the first period to give the Tigers (8-7-1) an early 1-0 lead.

Nick Urban made it 2-0 with a goal before Waupaca got back to within one four minutes later. From that point, it was all Tigers.

Tristian Reissmann, Noah Peterson and Schindler added goals in a 6½ minute span of second period, and Adam Zee added a late goal to finish the scoring for Marshfield.

“It was nice to get a solid win on the road in an environment that we have traditionally struggled in,” Marshfield coach Eric Bowman said. “Our power play finally put up multiple goals, which was good to see. We have been generating chances, but have not been able to finish. Tonight we finished. We need to improve our special teams if we want to make any kind of a run in the postseason, so seeing our special teams playing well tonight was a plus for our group.”

A.J. Trierweiler had 19 saves for Marshfield.

Marshfield hosts Wisconsin Rapids at 7 p.m. Thursday. The game will be broadcast on WDLB-AM 1450 and wdlbwosq.com.
