Wisconsin Rapids edges Marshfield boys basketball

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Marshfield couldn’t overcome a cold shooting night against Wisconsin Rapids.

The Tigers shot just 37 percent from the field and were 7-for-32 from 3-point range in a 56-54 loss to Wisconsin Rapids on Tuesday night at Lincoln High School.

With the loss, Marshfield falls into a three-way tie for first place in the Wisconsin Valley Conference at 5-2, along with Merrill and D.C. Everest. Stevens Point sits just one-half game behind at 4-2. Wisconsin Rapids improves to 6-9 and 3-4 in the WVC.

Marshfield trailed 23-18 at halftime, overcame that to take the lead with about seven minutes left, before Rapids regained the advantage and held on at the end.

Anthony Posteluk and Joey Goettl each scored 13 points, and Bennett Koehn chipped in 10 for the Tigers.

Grant Flory poured in 25 points on 9-for-13 shooting to lead the Raiders, who were a more efficient 18-for-38 shooting and held a 17-9 advantage at the free throw line.

Marshfield will play at Merrill on Thursday and Wisconsin Rapids is at Stevens Point on Friday. The Marshfield game will be broadcast on WDLB-AM 1450 and wdlbwosq.com.
