Three second-period goals push Mosinee past Marshfield boys hockey

MARSHFIELD – Mosinee scored three goals in the second period to power past Marshfield and win 4-1 in a nonconference boys hockey game Thursday night at the Marshfield Area Ice Arena.

Following a scoreless first period, Trey Fitzgerald opened the scoring with a goal for Mosinee 2:56 into the second period.

Slade Frause and A.J. Buenning added goals to give Mosinee (15-7) a 3-0 lead.

Marshfield made it closer when Nick Urban scored on a power play with 5:04 remaining, but the Tigers couldn’t get any closer. Fitzgerald added an empty net goal with eight seconds to go to provide the final score.

A.J. Trierweiler had 29 saves in goal for Marshfield, which falls to 12-9-1 this season.

Marshfield returns to action Tuesday at home against Wausau West.
