SPENCER – The Spencer volleyball team wasn’t about to overlook Gilman in its chase for second place in Cloverbelt Conference title.

Behind 12 kills from Courtney Schulz, the Rockets demolished Gilman 25-17, 25-13, 25-16 on Tuesday to improve to 7-1 in conference play and remain one game in back of first-place Owen-Withee.

Kylie Esser had 18 assists and Marcie Hebert and Nicki Bruss each had six kills for the Rockets, who close out the Cloverbelt regular season on Thursday at Greenwood, which is tied with Spencer for second in the standings.

Spencer has a chance to tie for the conference title, but would need a win and an Owen-Withee loss against 1-6 Loyal.

“Dani Johnson and Alicia Endreas were picking up everything Gilman threw at us,” Spencer coach Buff Heller said. “That is what kept our attack going all three games. All of our seniors did a nice job in Game 1. They probably haven’t played together like that since their freshmen year. It was a lot of run to watch.”

The Spencer JV and freshman teams also won 3-0.
