Marshfield girls basketball close in on WVC title with win over Wausau East

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield girls basketball team took another step toward a Wisconsin Valley Conference title with a 49-36 win over Wausau East on Tuesday at Marshfield High School.

The Tigers improve to 13-5 overall and 10-1 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference after posting their ninth win in a row.

Marshfield will close out its conference schedule Friday at home against Wausau West. With a win, the Tigers will clinch at least a share of their first WVC championship since the 2015-16 season.

Marshfield cruised out to a 33-16 lead by halftime and was able to hold on from there.

Desirae Weisenberger had 11 points, eight rebounds and five assists, and Kaydee Johnson also had 11 points with nine rebounds, five assists and five steals for the Tigers.

Paige Preston also scored 10 points and Danielle Minsaas chipped in nine in the win.
