Wausau West blanks Marshfield boys hockey

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield boys hockey team couldn’t get much offense going against Wausau West, dropping its final regular-season home game of the season 6-0 on Tuesday at the Marshfield Area Ice Arena.

Wausau West, which has clinched its fifth-straight conference title, outshot Marshfield 44-13, with six different players connecting on scores.

Marc Sippel and Cade Gruber scored in the first period, Jacob Cebulla, Conner Healy and Carson Marquardt added goals in the second period, and Cole Hannes finished the scoring with a goal in the third as Wausau West improves to 19-3 overall and 9-0 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference.

A.J. Trierweiler had 38 saves in goal for Marshfield (12-10-1, 4-5 Wisconsin Valley Conference).

Marshfield will wrap-up its regular-season schedule Thursday at D.C. Everest. The Tigers will host a WIAA Division 2 regional final on Feb. 20 against Waupaca.
