ATHENS – A big first half proved to be enough for the Auburndale boys basketball team on Thursday night.
Auburndale piled up 43 first-half points to open up a double-digit lead and held off Athens for a 73-64 win in a Marawood Conference crossover game at Athens High School.
Cooper Weinfurter had 26 points and Hunter Wright added 17 for Auburndale, which improves to 17-2 overall and 12-2 in the Marawood South with two conference games remaining.
Cameron Ford had 36 points for Athens (12-6, 8-6 Marawood North).
Auburndale hosts Wittenberg-Birnamwood for a nonconference game Monday before hosting Stratford in a clash of Marawood South leaders next Friday, Feb. 21.
