Colby holds off Spencer girls basketball

COLBY – Colby outlasted Spencer in a foul-filled game, earning a hard-fought 59-46 victory in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division girls basketball game Friday night at Colby High School.

Colby made only four baskets from the field in the second half, but were 15 of 29 at the free throw line to hold off the Rockets.

There were 46 fouls called in the game with the two teams combining for 64 free throw attempts.

Spencer finished 16-for-25 at the line, including 11 of 21 in the second half as it attempted to make a comeback.

Heavyn Kind had 20 points, including 7 of 8 free throws and all three of Spencer’s 3-pointers. Amber Becker added nine points in the loss. Spencer is now 6-14 overall and finishes the Cloverbelt East season at 3-13.

Emma Peavey was 13-for-21 at the line, 10-for-17 in the second half, and finished with 19 points for Colby (12-7, 10-5 Cloverbelt East). Hailey Voelker also had 19 points for the Hornets.

Spencer hosts Abbotsford in a nonconference game Monday, while Colby will be at home against Granton in its Cloverbelt East finale on Monday before hosting Abbotsford for a nonconference game on Tuesday.

Both teams will compete in Cloverbelt crossover games on Thursday.
