Greenwood surges past Columbus Catholic in Cloverbelt East boys basketball

MARSHFIELD – Greenwood busted open a tight game with a 19-point second-half advantage and defeated Marshfield Columbus Catholic 76-56 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division boys basketball game Tuesday night at Columbus Catholic High School.

Greenwood held a slim 33-32 lead at halftime before breaking it open, outscoring the Dons 43-24 in the second half.

Weston Schmitz had 32 points and Cooper Bredlau added 20 points for Greenwood, which clinches third place in the Cloverbelt East, improving to 12-7 overall and 10-4 in conference play.

Eden Jacobson had more than half of Columbus Catholic’s points, finishing with 29. The Dons fall to 8-11 overall and 7-7 in the Cloverbelt East.

Both teams return to action Friday. Columbus Catholic will be at Loyal and Greenwood hosts Owen-Withee.
