WAUSAU – Wausau Newman Catholic closed out its second-straight Marawood Conference South Division title with a 50-36 win over Auburndale in the regular-season and conference finales for both teams on Thursday night at Newman Catholic High School.
Jadelyn Ganski made four 3-pointers and scored a game-high 20 points for Newman Catholic, which finishes the regular season with an 18-4 record and a 14-2 mark in the Marawood South.
Newman Catholic led 27-20 at halftime and finished off the win by holding Auburndale (16-6, 11-5 Marawood South) to 16 points in the second half.
Julia Seidel made 8 of 9 free throws and added 15 points for the Cardinals in the win.
Georgi Schmutzer had four 3-pointers and scored 14 points for Auburndale.
Both teams earned No. 1 seeds, and first-round byes, in the upcoming WIAA playoffs and will play in regional semifinals on Friday, Feb. 28.
Wausau Newman will the winner of the Gresham vs. Almond-Bancroft game at home in Division 5, and Auburndale will take on the winner of the Spencer-Stratford game at home in Division 4.
