WAUSAU – The Marshfield volleyball team found itself down 2-1 in its match on the road at Wausau West High School, but wasn’t about to give up.
The Tigers rallied to win a pair of tough games and beat West 3-2 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference match Thursday.
With the 25-15, 19-25, 19-25, 27-25, 16-14 win, the Tigers improve to 5-3 and into a tie for second place in the conference standings with Merrill (5-3) and Stevens Point (4-2) with four matches remaining.
Sarah Cherney and Kim Johnson each had 17 kills, and Tiffany Stargardt had 14 kills and six blocks for Marshfield.
“This is a really exciting win for us as it shows our never say die attitude,” Marshfield coach Dawn Sadowska said. “I thought our seniors really stepped it up tonight and showed how important this season is to them and that they are going to lead this team to victories.”
Sarah Wolff had 47 assists and Darian Molter led the defense with 25 digs.
Marshfield will compete at a Wisconsin Valley Conference meet on Saturday at West before closing the season with matches at home against first-place Wausau East on Tuesday and Wisconsin Rapids next Thursday.
