MADISON – The 2020 WIAA State Boys Hockey and Girls Hockey Tournaments were held Thursday, March 5 through Saturday, March 7, at the Alliant Energy Center.
Verona (25-4) edged Green Bay Notre Dame (25-2-1) 2-1 in overtime to win the Division 1 boys championship as Leo Renlund scored 6:17 into overtime for the victory. Verona’s title is the second in program history (2014). Verona had lost in the championship game the past two seasons.
In the Division 2 boys championship game, Fond du Lac St. Mary’s Springs (24-3-2) beat Northland Pines (24-4) 5-1. The title is St. Mary’s Springs’ first ever.
In the girls final, the Appleton Xavier Co-op (22-7) outlasted the Middleton Co-op (24-4) 5-3 to win its second-straight state title.
