College roundup: Updates on Zastrow, Fravert, Anderson

Zastrow wins WIAC pole vault title

Zastrow won the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference pole vault title at the conference indoor track meet on Feb. 28 at UW-Oshkosh with a new school and conference record vault of 17 feet, 8¼ inches. He broke his own school record, and knocked off a 24-year old conference mark of 17-7¾ that was set in 1996. The height is the best this season in the country in Division III.

Zastrow was named the WIAC/Kwik Trip Field Athlete of the Week and the NCAA Division III National Athlete of the Week by United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Feb. 11 after clearing 17-3 at the Big Dawg Invitational at UW-Stevens Point.

Zastrow will compete at the NCAA Division III Championships in Winston-Salem, N.C., on March 13-14.

Fravert, UWO lose in NCAA Tournament

Adam Fravert, a 2016 graduate of Marshfield High School, wrapped up a stellar career on the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh men’s basketball team at the NCAA Division III Tournament this past weekend.

The Titans, the defending NCAA Division III national champions, defeated Transylvania (Kent.) University 74-58 on Friday before losing 84-82 in overtime to North Central College (Ill.) on Saturday in the second round at Naperville, Ill.

Fravert, who was named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Co-Player of the Year this season, had 12 points, six rebounds, four assists and three blocked shots in the loss to North Central. In the win over Transylvania, he had 12 points, 15 rebounds and four assists.

Anderson wraps up sophomore season at La Crosse

Seth Anderson, a 2018 Marshfield High School graduate, recently finished his sophomore season on the UW-La Crosse men’s basketball team.

Anderson played in all 27 of the Eagles’ games this season coming off the bench. He averaged 7.8 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1 assist per game in 19.1 minutes per contest. He shot 76.4 percent at the free throw line (42 of 55), made five 3-pointers, and shot 53.2 percent overall from the field (82 of 154).

La Crosse finished 21-6 overall and 9-5 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Eagles’ season ended Feb. 27 with a 76-68 loss to UW-Oshkosh in the semifinals of the WIAC Tournament.
