MARSHFIELD – Victor Gonzalez scored on a wild pitch during an eighth inning rally to push the Marshfield Chaparrals amateur baseball team to a 4-3 win over the Medford Moon Dogs on Sunday night at Jack Hackman Field.
Gonzalez had a one-out single, and Luke Wirtz and Jason Kurth both walked to load the bases before Gonzalez scored on the wild pitch to break a 3-3 tie.
Ethan Peters struck out two in the top of the ninth to save the win for Nathan Krommenakker, who threw 1 1/3 innings of relief. Donavon Brandl started for the Chaparrals, allowing three runs in 6 2/3 innings.
Nate McDonald was hit by a pitch to lead off the first inning, went to second on a wild pitch and third on a groundout before scoring on another wild pitch, giving Marshfield an early 1-0 lead.
Wirth had an RBI double and Kurth followed with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the sixth to push the Chaps’ lead to 3-0.
Medford rallied with three runs in the top of the seventh. Trent Woebbeking scored on a passed ball and Caleb Guden had a two-run single to tie the game at 3-3 before Marshfield pulled ahead in the eighth.
