Merrill edges Marshfield girls tennis

MERRILL – The Marshfield girls tennis team dropped a tight match 4-3 to Merrill on Tuesday at Merrill High School.

Marshfield won a pair of singles matches but only managed one win in doubles to lose the close Wisconsin Valley Conference match.

Sydney Newmier won 7-6 (5), 6-4, at No. 2 singles and Sonia Dissanayaka earned a 6-3, 6-2, win at No. 3 singles for Marshfield.

The Tigers’ lone doubles win came from the No. 3 team of Loryn Jakobi and Izabel Paape, who won 6-0, 6-3.

Marshfield (1-1) hosts D.C. Everest on Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Boson Tennis Complex.
