MARSHFIELD – Sam Roherty scored on a penalty kick with less than 2 minutes remaining to help the Marshfield boys soccer team forge a 1-1 tie with D.C. Everest on Tuesday night at Heiting Community Stadium at Marshfield High School.

Caiden Hoeppner scored 7:51 into the game for D.C. Everest and its lead held from nearly the remainder of the game.

However, a penalty called on D.C. Everest with 1:50 remaining set up a penalty kick for Roherty, who nailed it to tie the game. Neither team was able to muster another goal.

John Belton had 10 saves for the Evergreens (2-2-1), and Trevor Cassidy made three saves for Marshfield in goal.

Marshfield held a commanding 16-8 advantage in shots, but managed to get just the one penalty kick past Belton.

Marshfield (3-3-1) returns to action Saturday when it hosts Hortonville at 11 a.m. at Heiting Community Stadium.

D.C> Everest does not play again until Oct. 13 when it is at Hortonville.
