Stratford topples Auburndale to win Marawood South volleyball title

STRATFORD – The Stratford volleyball team is the Marawood Conference South Division champions. Again.

The Tigers defeated Auburndale 3-1 in a battle of Marawood South undefeated teams on Monday night at Stratford High School.

Stratford won 25-23, 24-26, 25-23, 25-19, to finish the conference season with a 5-0 record. Auburndale finishes 4-1.

Stratford has won four-straight Marawood South titles, the past three outright after tying Wausau Newman Catholic in 2017.

Mikayla Guldan had 12 kills and five service aces, Abby Oertel had 21 assists, and Autumn Oertel had eight digs to lead Stratford in each category.

Tanaya Schillinger added nine kills and seven digs, and Lauryn Nagel had seven kills, four aces and 13 assists as well for the Tigers.

Josie Ertl had 13 kills, Georgi Schmutzer had 24 assists and 14 digs, and Kaitlyn Kundinger had a team-high 22 digs for Auburndale.

The game was Stratford’s final regular-season match. Auburndale will end its regular season schedule Thursday at home against Abbotsford.

Pairings for the WIAA playoffs, which begin Oct. 20, will be announced later this week.
