MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield defense held a potent D.C. Everest offense down for the most part, but the Evergreens defense was equally up to the task.

D.C. Everest held Marshfield to just 52 total yards and two first downs in a 10-0 shutout win in Valley Football Association action Friday night at Heiting Community Stadium at Marshfield High School.

Everest, which came into the game averaging 41.7 points per game in its first three contests, was held scoreless until early in the second quarter.

Following an interception that set up the Evergreens at the Marshfield 42, Everest scored eight plays later on a 3-yard run by Orion Boe and it took a 7-0 lead with 10:20 to go in the half.

Marshfield’s defense continued to play inspired football, holding the Evergreens to just two first downs the remainder of the second quarter and held them out of the end zone after they reached the 23 late in half.

However, Marshfield’s offense could never get rolling.

The Tigers had a pair of three-and-outs in the third quarter and was able to grab one first down before their drive stalled near midfield early in the fourth.

Everest took over after a short punt at the 38 and finished off the win with a long 12-play drive that ended in a 28-yard field goal by Alec Schuster with 1:34 to play.

Brock Babish had 121 yards rushing to lead the Everest ground game that finished with 206 yards in all.

Logan Durham had 43 yards rushing, 27 coming on one play, to pace the Tigers.

Marshfield will host Wisconsin Rapids in a VFA game next Friday, Oct. 23, at Heiting Community Stadium.
