STRATFORD – Wisconsin Rapids Assumption, the No. 1-ranked team in Division 4 in the WisSports.net Coaches Poll, outscored Stratford 34-10 in the first half and went on to a 59-20 victory over the Tigers in a Marawood Conference South Division girls basketball game Thursday night at Stratford High School.
Assumption’s defense was too tough for Stratford, which made only 6 of 33 shots from the field. The Royals (12-0, 7-0 Marawood South) also outrebounded Stratford (2-10, 1-6 Marawood South) 32-17 and had 16 steals.
“Our girls played hard, however Assumption has an all-around solid team,” Stratford coach Betsy Miller said. “Their defensive pressure, full or half court, is exceptional.”
Keri Doll scored nine points and had five rebounds to lead Stratford in both categories.
Stratford returns to action Tuesday at Athens in a nonconference game.
