WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Marshfield set three new school records, won three events, and finished third in the overall team standings at the 2020 Wisconsin Valley Conference Girls Swim Meet on Thursday at Lincoln High School.
D.C. Everest won the team title with 507 points on the strength of four-event winner Sara Mayer. Mayer was part of the 200-yard medley and 200 freestyle relay teams, and won the 100 butterfly (58.38 seconds) and the 200 freestyle (2:00.13) for the Evergreens, earning Wisconsin Valley Conference Swimmer of the Year honors.
Faith Risa won the 200 individual medley in 2:17.64 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.57 while setting a new school record in the process.
Hope Risa, Faith Risa, Courtney Donahue and Skylar Onsager finished third in the 200 medley relay in 1:55.85, and Donahue took second in the 100 butterfly in 1:00.83, both setting new school records for Marshfield as well.
In addition to Faith Risa’s two wins, Alyssa Franks took first in the 500 freestyle in 5:30.28 for the Tigers’ other conference title.
Franks also finished second in the 200 freestyle (2:03.43), and the 200 freestyle relay team of Hope Risa, Lauren Olsewski, Franks and Donahue took third in 1:47.88.
Marshfield, Wausau West, Wisconsin Rapids and D.C. Everest will compete at the WIAA Division 1 sectional at Hudson. Merrill and Wausau East will be at the Division 2 sectional at Rhinelander. Both are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 7. Winners of each event, and the next 18 best times in Division 1 and 12 in Division 2 qualify for the WIAA State Girls Swimming Championships at Waukesha South High School. The Division 2 state meet will be Nov. 13 and the Division 1 meet on Nov. 14.
