Marshfield High School girls swimmer Faith Risa has been voted as the MarshfieldAreaSports.com & Zaleski Sports October High School Athlete of the Month.
The High School Athlete of the Month Award main sponsor for the 2020-21 school year is Awards ‘n’ More of Wisconsin Rapids. The monthly award will continue through June 2021, and the winner of the MarshfieldAreaSports.com & Zaleski Sports High School Athlete of the Year will be announced in July.
Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award: Abbotsford, Assumption, Athens, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Marathon, Marshfield, Neillsville, Owen-Withee, Pacelli, Pittsville, Spencer, Stevens Point, Stratford, Thorp and Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln.
Risa earned 1,121 of the more than 2,300 votes cast during voting from Nov. 3-9 at MarshfieldAreaSports.com.
Other nominees for the October award were: Stevens Point Pacelli football player Brycen Cashin, Greenwood football player Sully Whitford, and Marshfield Columbus Catholic volleyball player Dorci Walker.
Risa, a sophomore, finished off an undefeated run through the Wisconsin Valley Conference in the 100-yard breaststroke, capturing the title in the event at the WVC Meet on Oct. 29 at Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School. Risa won the event in 1:08.57, which is a new school record for the Marshfield program. She also won the 200 individual medley in 2:17.64 to give her two conference titles. Risa won the 200 IM in all WVC dual meets she competed in the event, and added a pair of wins in the 100 butterfly as the Tigers finished 6-4 in conference meets this season.
