MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield football team earned its first victory of the season on Friday night with a 29-13 win over Stanley-Boyd at Heiting Community Stadium.
Marshfield was scheduled to take on Menomonie in a WIAA Division 1 postseason game Friday, but when the Mustangs canceled the remainder of their season, Marshfield scheduled Stanley-Boyd, a Division 4 postseason participant, which also had its originally scheduled against Colby game canceled.
Sophomore quarterback Trevor Foemmel threw four touchdown passes for the Tigers.
Marshfield trailed 7-0 midway through the second quarter before Foemmel hit Peter Earll for a 49-yard touchdown pass. Simon Slade ran in the two-point conversion and the Tigers led 8-7 heading into halftime.
Foemmel connected with Wyatt LeMoine for a 36-yard touchdown early in the third quarter, only to have that matched by Stanley-Boyd’s Carsen Hause, who tosses an 82-yard TD pass to Cooper Nichols, and Marshfield led 15-13.
Marshfield was able to regroup quickly after recovering a surprise onside kick attempt from the Orioles and Foemmel drilled a 23-yard scoring strike to Matthew Trulen to put the Tigers up 23-13.
Marshfield finished off the scoring when LeMoine took a screen pass from Foemmel on fourth down and went in from 6 yards out for the final score of the game.
Marshfield was awarded a forfeit win over Menomonie to advance in the WIAA postseason bracket and will finish its 2020 season at Hudson on Thursday, Nov. 19.
