STRATFORD – The Stratford girls basketball team opened its 2020-21 season with a resounding 61-27 win over defending Marawood Conference South Division champion Wausau Newman Catholic on Tuesday night at Stratford High School.
Playing without top returning scorer Breanna Ackley, a number of other Tigers stepped up in the win with nine of the 10 players scoring for Stratford.
Emily Hughes led the way for Stratford with 17 points and nine rebounds, Gracie Hauke added 13 points, and Lauren Kraus was 6 of 9 from the field and finished with 12 points in the victory.
Stratford raced out to a 36-11 lead by halftime and was able to maintain its big lead throughout.
Anna Brown scored nine points for Newman Catholic.
Stratford returns to action Dec. 1 at Edgar.
