MARSHFIELD – Loyal locked down Marshfield Columbus Catholic in the first half, opened up a 10-point halftime lead, and finished off a 42-29 win in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division girls basketball game Thursday night at Columbus Catholic High School.
Loyal used a 10-0 run to take a 15-6 lead midway through the first half and led the rest of the way.
The Dons were held to just nine made baskets in the game. Although Columbus was able to get to the free throw line, it was unable to take advantage, making only 9 of 24 attempts at the line.
Katlyn Lindner, Savannah Schley and Kayla Bremmer each scored eight points in a balanced scoring attack for Loyal (2-0 overall and Cloverbelt Conference East Division).
Jenna Kibbel had 10 points, and Maggie Callaghan and Emmalee Jicinsky each had six for Columbus Catholic, which falls to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the Cloverbelt East.
Loyal hosts Granton on Tuesday and Columbus Catholic will return to action Dec. 11 at Spencer.
