MERRILL – The Marshfield boys basketball team came up a point short in its 2020-21 debut, losing to Merrill 60-59 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference game Friday night at Merrill High School.

After a pair of missed free throws by Marshfield that could have tied the game with 15 seconds to go, Isaac Sutton hit a pair from the line for Merrill to put them up 60-56.

Sam Roherty hit a 3-pointer to bring the Tigers to within one, and after a turnover by Merrill, Marshfield missed a half-court heave at the buzzer to come up just short.

Nathan Woller had 21 points, Sutton added 15 and Trenton Lokemoen scored 10 for the Bluejays, who were also playing their season opener.

Roherty had 15 points, Gavin Fravert scored 14 and Chase Hinson chipped in 11 for Marshfield.

Marshfield will host D.C. Everest on Tuesday. The game will be live-streamed at zaleskisports.com/live-sports.
