MARSHFIELD – Ian Haugen scored twice early to help Marshfield build an early lead the Tigers were able to hold on for a 5-4 win over Wisconsin Rapids in a Wisconsin Valley Conference boys hockey game Tuesday at the Marshfield Ice Arena.
After Marshfield’s Ben Konrardy and Wisconsin Rapids’ Carson Gunderson exchanged goals in the opening six minutes, Haugen scored 6:15 into the first period and 7:12 into the second, and Sawyer Schindler scored for the Tigers as well as Marshfield built a 4-1 lead after two period.
Gunderson completed a hat trick with a pair of goals in the third, sandwiching a goal by Schindler for Marshfield.
Rapids added a power play goal from Carter Morrison with 8 seconds left to finish off the scoring.
Marshfield (1-1 overall, 1-0 Wisconsin Valley Conference) hosts Merrill/Wausau East on Friday at 7 p.m. at the Marshfield Ice Arena. The game will be live-streamed at zaleskisports.com/live-sports.
Wisconsin Rapids (0-4, 0-2 WVC) host Waupaca for a nonconference game Thursday.
