ATHENS – Emily Hughes had 17 points and Tanaya Schillinger added 16 as the Stratford girls basketball team handled Athens 65-44 in a Marawood Conference crossover game Friday night at Athens High School.
Stratford rolled out to a 34-21 lead by halftime and held on from there as Schillinger had nine points in the second half.
In a game marred by fouls, Stratford was 21 of 34 at the free throw line while Athens went just 17 of 37.
Breanna Ackley added 11 points for the Tigers, who improve to 4-1 overall and in the Marawood Conference South Division. Stratford is now tied with Auburndale for first place in the conference standings, and the two teams will play each other Dec. 18 at Stratford.
Sophia Coker led Athens (2-2, 1-2 Marawood North) with nine points.
