Phillips knocks off Auburndale in battle of girls basketball unbeatens

AUBURNDALE – Phillips jumped out to a double-digit lead by halftime and went on to a 71-55 win over Auburndale in a battle of girls basketball Marawood Conference unbeatens on Friday night at Auburndale High School.

Phillips led 39-26 at halftime and was able to hold on in the second half to improve to 5-0 overall and 4-9 in the Marawood Conference North Division.

Jada Eggebrecht poured in 30 points, going 8-for-8 at the free throw line, and Rachel Callow had three 3-pointers and scored 23 for the Loggers.

Kaitlyn Kundinger was the lone Auburndale player in double figures with 19 points. Georgi Schmutzer added nine for the Eagles, who suffered their first loss of the season.

Auburndale (4-1 overall and Marawood South) will host Marshfield Columbus Catholic for a nonconference game Tuesday, before traveling to Stratford on Dec. 18 for a battle for first place in the Marawood South.
